Swim Dynamics Instructor Training courses are educational springboards for candidates who would like to become swimming instructors or enhance and improve their abilities and knowledge as swimming instructors.

Overview

Swim Dynamics Level 1 course focuses on the Learn To Swim program. Teach children from the ages of 3 to 8 years old to swim, through the fundamentals of swimming, progression of skills and correct stroke technique, and receive guidance through the various steps of executing the Learn To Swim program. 

Beginner Swimming program for any age group including adults.

Course Process

Candidates to request enrolment forms via Contact us or email admin@swimdynamicssa.co.za. Candidates must submit a video demonstrating they can swim 12 meters independently. The course is presented in two parts, an online theory and a practical water session. The theory training is completed via an online meeting over 4 consecutive days of 5 hour sessions. Thereafter candidates attend the practical training sessions, a total of 8 hours divided over 2 days, 4 hours per day.

Practical training is done in person where they will have an opportunity to observe lessons in action and to work through the theory as learnt under the guidance of an experienced facilitator. Having attended both the theory and practical training sessions candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.

Evaluation process

Candidates have 6 months to complete the evaluation process after the practical training session. Candidates will then prepare for the exam by completing 20 hours of logging by shadowing  pre-approved Level 1 swimming instructors. Candidates must submit their CPR and First Aid Level 1 certificate and Police Clearance certificate. Once all relevant documentation is submitted candidates will receive the theory exam. The theory exam must be completed and submitted within 10 days of receiving it. Candidates will submit a 30 minute practical exam video within 3 weeks of receiving the theory exam.

Swim Dynamics Level One course is recognised by Swimming South Africa.

Overview

Swim Dynamics Level 2 course bridges the gap between Learn To Swim and Coaching. This course assists swimming teachers to become beginner squad coaches. Teaching children between the ages of 8 and 15 years old.

This course will assist you in teaching your swimmers advanced stroke technique, dives, starts and  turns within the framework of the latest World Aquatics rules using the latest coaching techniques. This course includes the latest coaching techniques and advanced coaching drills.

Course Process

Candidates to request enrolment forms via Contact us or email admin@swimdynamicssa.co.za. Candidates must have completed a learn to swim course, preferably the SDIT Level one course. If a candidate has completed another LTS programme, SDIT will need a copy of the  course outline in order to determine whether the LTS training was sufficient for the candidate to attend the SDIT Level 2 course. Candidates must have at least one season of swimming teaching experience.

The course is presented in two parts, an online theory and online practical water session. The theory training is completed via an online meeting over 3 consecutive days of 5 hour sessions. The practical sessions will be sent via video links after the theory session. Having completed both the theory and practical training sessions candidates will submit videos of drills being completed. Candidates have 3 months to submit the videos for review. Once completed candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.

Overview

Swim Dynamics Baby Course focuses on using soft teaching methods to teach babies between the ages of 6 months and 3 years old. The course imparts the knowledge of how to work with parents and babies in a group situation. The course will teach an instructor how to plan lessons using a systematic approach in order to guide the babies with their parents through a series of 13 vital skills progressing towards the babies becoming waterborne.  Candidates learn how to hold the babies correctly to maximise their experience of water buoyancy while still allowing the babies to feel safe and secure. 

Candidates will also receive training on the ethical & legal obligations when teaching babies to swim as well as guidance on how to run a successful swim school. 

The babies learn through play, love, effective communication, and repetition how to:

  • balance in the water.
  • help themselves should they fall into a body of water.
  • move their arms & legs to swim and get to safety.
  • how to regain standing position in shallow water.
  • submerge safely, without fear and without inhaling the water.

There is an option for completing the practical training online for out-of-country candidates. Having attended both the theory & practical training sessions candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.

Evaluation process

Candidates will then prepare for the exam by completing 15 hours of shadowing with pre-approved Baby Swimming instructors. Candidates must submit their CPR and First Aid Level 1 certificate and Police Clearance certificate. The exam is completed in the form of an open book theory  exam  and the submission of a practical video where the candidate teaches a lesson that they have planned for 3 or 4 babies, the babies must have parents or caregiver in the pool with them. On completion of the exams, successful candidates will receive a Certificate of Competence to teach Baby Swimming.

Overview

The Baby Development and Infant Swimming Course AKA Tiny Baby Course was designed specifically for teachers who would like to teach babies in a 1:1 environment. Learn to teach babies from 2 weeks to 24 months old.

The tiny baby course has been developed to enhance your skills as a swimming instructor while teaching babies. Teaching tiny babies requires specific techniques and knowledge and this course will impart that knowledge and give you the confidence to teach babies.

The tiny baby course will work towards an understanding of  baby development and how swimming can aid and even enhance baby’s development. A baby’s developing brain thrives on exposure to responsive, nurturing, positive experiences.

Course Process

Evaluation Process

Candidates have 6 months to complete their examinations after completing the online theory training. Candidates must complete 10 hours of logging which will be completed via online videos and video analysis.  Candidates will receive a theory exam after the theory training. A practical examination video must be submitted and a completed lesson plan for your practical video. Candidates must submit their CPR and First Aid Level 1 certificate and Police Clearance certificate. All documents and videos must be submitted all together via email.

Overview

The Special Needs course has been developed for instructors that have a passion for teaching special needs children. This course has been developed to enhance knowledge on how to adjust lesson plans for special needs children to obtain the best possible results.

Workshop 2 - Understanding the specific disability and the adjustments needed to facilitate optimal results and to caution the instructor on the risk factors when working with these children.

Workshop 3 - Focuses  on medical irregularities, precautions to take, consent needed and acquisition of correct information via your enrolment or registration form.

Workshop 4 - Concentrates on PRE-SWIMMING skills for the special needs child using the Halliwick method and WOTA assessment to determine progress and also adjustment tools in the form of Makaton and visual scheduling and lesson plans

Candidates must have a recognised Learn To Swim or baby qualification and at least one year teaching experience  

ONLINE: The Special needs course consists of 4 workshops. The Workshops are 4 hours each and attended via online meeting. Candidates will need to have attended workshop 1 before they can attend workshop 2, 3 and 4.

FACE TO FACE: 3 full day courses face to face in Alberton, Gauteng  that includes all 4 workshops and a practical each day.

Evaluation Process

ONLINE: After each workshop candidates are expected to complete an assignment, lesson plans, logging and any other documents required for that specific workshop. Candidates have 3 months to complete the evaluation after the date of the workshop.

FACE TO FACE: Due to the practical element of the face to face training there will not be an assignment for each workshop.
